4K resolution video clarity
The 8mp image sensor at the core of the LNE8950A turret and dome audio security camera is capable of recording a 4K pixel resolution of 3840 x 2160 at 15 frames-per-second (FPS). This resolution will deliver extremely detailed images and allow for greater digital zooms so you can see further into the distance. 4K Video Resolution?
4K resolution is based on the amount of horizontal pixels the camera’s image sensor has on it. In order to be considered 4K, there must be approximately 4000 horizontal pixels. This dome security camera, in particular, can record at a pixel ratio of 3840 (horizontal) x 2160 (vertical). That is about 4× the amount of pixels that a 1080p HD resolution camera has. A further advantage of a 4K security camera is that the higher amount of pixels allows for much better digital zooms. So if you spot something in your footage that you need to zoom in on, specific details, such as facial features or license plate digits, will remain visible for longer as you zoom in further and further into the image.
Sony Exmor R CMOS Sensor
The amazing video performance of this security camera is thanks to the incredibly sophisticated Sony Exmor R™ image sensor at its core. This top-of-the-line image sensor is primarily used to convert the analog video signal to digital. It also shields the video from excessive grain by passing the video data through an analog noise filter before conversion and a digital reduction after.
Back Illuminated Pixel Technology
The Sony Exmore R sensor has changed the way in which image sensors capture light energy. Up until now, light energy (photons) would have to travel through a layer of metal wiring and transistors before reaching the image sensor’s light sensitive area (photo-diode). These obstructions would diminish the amount of light that is ultimately captured by the sensor. This is called a front illuminated image sensor. That is not the case with this security camera’s image sensor, which uses back illuminated pixel technology. With this type of sensor, the light no longer has to pass through that layer of wiring, drastically improving the total amount of light captured. This vastly enhances low-light performance and results in less digital noise to keep your security footage clean and clear.
A higher shutter speed provides the least amount of motion blur. A high shutter speed, however, needs a lot of light, so finding the right balance between these two settings can be difficult. Thankfully, this camera’s electronic shutter will automatically figure this out for you. An electronic shutter, as opposed to a mechanical shutter, does not rapidly open and shut with every picture (or frame). Instead, the image sensor accumulates light for a set amount of time (anywhere between 1/3 of a second to 1/100000 of a second), then resets (like the shutter closing) and gets ready for the next frame.
4K television / monitor not required
It is important to note that this 4K security camera does not require a 4K television or monitor for use. The foremost benefit of using this camera is that the additional resolution will be utilized when necessary. So if an incident does occur, it will offer the best chance to digitally zoom in on people and objects to capture useful evidence (such as distinct facial features or license plate numbers).
Active Mechanical IR Cut Filter
You can hear your camera make a noticeable click as night turns to day. This is the Active Mechanical Lens Filter (otherwise known as the IR Cut Filter) engaging. This filter prevents UV and infrared rays from entering the lens during the day. Without it, these rays would cause a variety of distortions and discoloration to the video. It then disengages as natural light levels fade, allowing the infrared light back in so the camera’s night vision can start to work.
H.265 Compression – HEVC High efficiency video codec
Keep the 4K footage without the 4K file sizes with High Efficiency Video Compression (HEVC) compression technology. Also known as H.265 or MPEG-H Part 2, this feature will compress video file sizes up to 40% more than the previous video compression technology without any noticeable difference in quality.
